E-Symposium: The Geoeconomics of Energy in The MENA Region: The Fossil Fuel Dimension
The Future of Energy Program (PFE) at the Center for the Study of Global Economic Future (CSGEF) organized its 1st annual Energy E-Symposium titled “The Geoeconomic of Energy in The MENA Region: The Fossil Fuel Dimension “. The event addressed the need to assess development in MENA’s energy sector and its transformation driven by global decarbonization and other factors. Featured speakers were Mr. Reed Blakemore, Deputy Director of the Global Energy Center at Atlantic Council; and Mr. Landon Derentz, Senior Director, Richard L. Morningstar Chair for Global Energy Security at the Global Energy Center, Atlantic Council. Mr Landon was the former Director for Energy on the National Security Council and the National Economic Council -The White House. The event was moderated by Prof. Renee Castaneda, Assistant Professor, at the College of Security and Global Studies at the American University of the Emirates. The panelists highlighted the need to collaborate with less mature national oil companies to help increase their capacity and deploy capital towards better policies. They also emphasized the importance of reducing wasteful practices and developing low carbon industries in consuming nations.
